MODULAb is the fashion brand founded by Becky Chen in 2024. She believes that fashion crosses over with architecture—where garment design speaks the language of modular systems: disassembly and reassembly. Cut and sewing become an expression of experimentation, a kind of “lab.” The name MODULAb merges these two ideas: “Modular” and “Lab.” To her, fashion is a structural language that reflects human philosophy and identity.
Becky Chen currently graduated with a BFA in Fashion Design in departmental honors with a minor in Fibers from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. In 2022, she graduated with a BFA in Interior Architecture from Boston Architectural College. Born in China, raised in Virginia Beach and lived in Boston, MA gives her independent and unique view to design.
With a background in architecture, she believes there are strong similarities between fashion and architecture—particularly in geometry, deconstruction, and collage. She is passionate about in-depth technical explorations in fashion design, such as patternmaking and tailoring techniques. She views fashion as a reflection of human life philosophy and the inner ego. Her interests include developing pattern integrations, refining tailoring techniques, and advancing technical skills such as fitting and flat drawings.
